Curfews in Effect for Some Areas of Dare County
Curfews have been announced for the unincorporated areas of Dare County including Hatteras Island along with the Towns of Kill Devil Hills, Manteo, Nags Head and Southern Shores. The curfew is in effect as follows – – –
Unincorporated Areas of Dare County – a nightly curfew from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. until further notice.
Town of Kill Devil Hills – a nightly curfew from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. until further notice.
Town of Nags Head is instituting a curfew from 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9 through 7:00 a.m., Monday, October 10.
Town of Manteo will have a curfew from 7:00 p.m., Sunday until 7:00 a.m. Monday.
Town of Southern Shores State of Emergency Exists. All Citizens Must Observe a 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Curfew
Due to greater impacts than anticipated from the storm, access to Dare County is restricted. By order of the Dare County Control Group, entry to Dare County for all areas of Dare County and for Currituck County’s Outer Banks will be permitted only for the following – – – Priority One – Essential Personnel Including essential personnel for utilities, government, medical and damage assessment. Priority Two – Permanent Residents & Essential Personnel for Critical Businesses Permanent Residents will be allowed reentry with a valid NC driver’s license with a local address or a current County property tax receipt.
Although flood waters are beginning to subside, be aware that dangerous conditions continue to exist. Everyone is advised to stay off the roads and avoid travel.
Town of Duck
No Curfew. Sanitation pick-up has been changed from Monday to Tuesday, October 11. Recycling will occur as scheduled on Monday, October 10. Please do not leave trash bins on curb until Monday night, and refrain from placing recycling bins on curb until winds subside if possible
Town of Kitty Hawk
There is no curfew for Kitty Hawk. The Town has declared a State of Emergency and access has been limited to Dare County residents, emergency and recovery personnel and critical business personnel. We are experiencing ocean overwash and plan to begin pumping floodwater between the highways as soon as the permit is obtained and ocean conditions allow.
Town of Nags Head
People are urged to remain inside and off the roads due to the hazardous conditions that still exist. There will be no sanitation collection in Nags Head on Monday, October 10. Please do not place sanitation carts out by the road until further notice.
Town of Southern Shores
Trash and recycle collection service for the Town of Southern Shores has been rescheduled and will be serviced on Tuesday, October 11th.
INFORMATION ABOUT CLOSURES AND SERVICES – – –
The phone system used by Dare County government for routine business including the 252.475.5655 Information Line to the Emergency Operations Center is experiencing a CenturyLink outage. Repairs are being made and service will be restored as soon as possible. The 911 emergency system is operating on a normal basis.
Dare County Schools
All Dare County Schools will be closed on Monday, October 10. Twelve month employees use Code 0.
Trash Pickup Residents and businesses that receive trash pickup service from Dare County Public Works are advised that trash will not be collected on Monday.
Dare County Offices
All Dare County Offices will be closed on Monday.
Clerk of Court – The Dare County Clerks Office will be closed on Monday. Anyone needing to file may go to the Magistrates Office located at 1044 Driftwood Drive in Manteo (252) 475-9228. All questions or concerns may be directed to Dare County Clerk of Court Dean Tolson at (252)216-7114.
Dare County Transportation Department Transportation services provided by the Dare County Transportation Department are cancelled for Monday.
National Park Service The National Park Service reports that all visitor services and facilities at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, and Wright Brothers National Memorial remain closed until further notice. FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION –
