An Evening at Breakwater Restaurant

After a day at the beach with friends, take a shower and clean up. Throw on something casual but nice, still adorning the flip flops, and head to Hatteras. The Breakwater Restaurant & Bar located at Oden’s Dock is a superb place to relax with a glass of wine and have a delicious meal. With the tables situated facing directly out toward the sound, the sunsets here are breathtaking and you don’t even have to leave your seat. The atmosphere is casual and relaxing and the dinner menu has an eclectic local mix of options. My favorites include the Carolina Shrimp with a creole remoulade dip, Scallops al Greco with feta and oregano, and the Filet Oscar with bĂ©arnaise sauce. It will make your mouth water! The dining area is donned with tables of white tablecloths and the "L" shaped bar is a comfortable place to grab a drink. If you have a large party of ten, you may be eligible to utilize the private dining area upstairs. If you want the view, however, you may want to forgo the privacy as the windows are set high. The main dining room is where the show is.... the sunsets are truly breathtaking whether it is the first of twentieth time you watch.
When you have finished dinner (and maybe a bottle of wine) head out to the open air deck and bar. Grab a seat in an Adirondack chair or sit at a table with a drink in hand and lean back. Every Tuesday and Sunday night they have live acoustic music. This year they will be featuring Jazz on Tuesdays. It makes for a great early evening of relaxation. As you listen to tunes you will tap your feet and gaze out at the Sound as you sip on a beverage of choice. Brown bagging is permitted so you can bring your own liquor and they will provide the set ups for you. For me and my circle of friends this is a weekly entertainment stop that is seldom skipped. It is a hot local spot where you can gather to socialize or just enjoy the atmosphere.
